Threlkeld Leys (UK)
This must be the smallest, the most basic, and the most rural of them all, because it was Malcolm Wilson’s home! In 1997 and 1998, on behalf of Ford, M-Sport built, ran, and sold the Escort World Rally Car — which was dedicated purely to international rallying. Like Boreham, many of these cars were originally works machines, but a number of customer cars were also constructed and sold. To make them, M-Sport started with standard Escort RS Cosworths, the transformed them into very different road-legal machines. Between 50 and 70 were produced before M-Sport moved on to Focus WRCs.
