Blue smoke and a rumbling bottom end point to terminal wear, but more likely is damage to the camshaft caused from the lubricating spray bar being clogged by old oil. A tapping from the top end is a telltale of wear, but a heavier clanking sound means that the cam’s completely shot. Cambelts should be replaced every 36,000 miles. Auto choke on the 32/36 Weber carb can be troublesome, giving rise to idling and overfuelling issues. NOS Ford exhausts cost a fortune, but remanufactured standard bore systems are available.
