Three’s the magic number
As if the bonkers power potential of the threecylinder 1-litre EcoBoost engine wasn’t enough (see March 2017 issue), Ford has just upped its game with the announcement of a 1.5-litre version which will power the new Fiesta ST revealed at the Geneva Motor Show this month.
Claiming 197 bhp and 213 lb.ft, the all-alloy turbocharged engine will be the first three-cylinder to fall under the Ford Performance brand, and features an integrated exhaust manifold that improves efficiency by helping the engine reach optimal temperatures faster, and delivers torque more rapidly by minimising the distance exhaust gasses travel between cylinders and turbocharger.
The Fiesta ST will be launched early 2018, and we can’t wait to see what the tuners will do once they get their hands on this engine.
