Capri World

W

hen was the group founded?

Capri World is a Facebook group which was founded in 2013. Why? My intention was to create an easily accessible platform for owners, enthusiasts and fans of the Capri which would supplement the then-existing internet forums.

Which models do you cover?

We cover all the Capri models from 1969 thorough to the last of the Mk3s, the 280 in 1987.

What does your club offer to new members?

My aim with the group was always to build a network of members to share their experience of ownership, mechanical support and knowledge, parts sourcing and of course photos of their Capris.

We have a number of automotive business partners offering exclusive member discounts including Tickover and Coops Insurance, and we have our own range of merchandise, including some special 50th anniversary decals (above) available to members with proceeds going to the St David’s Foundation Hospice.

We have also developed other support pages including Classic & Retro Ford World, and Capri World Business Services.

Have many members do you have?

The growth of the group has been phenomenal — at the moment we have 24,500 members, but it’s going up all the time.

Can you describe a typical member?

With members from all over, it’s very varied with people coming from all walks of life, but we’re all united by a passion for the Capri.

Do you have any members from overseas?

Our membership is active all over the world. Wherever the Capri was built or exported to, basically — and some countries where owners privately imported them, too. We also have a sister Facebook page — Capri World (North America) covering the Federal Capris.

Do you host your own show?

Not yet... but we’ve hosted a number of charity meets and get-togethers to raise funds for various causes including Birmingham Children’s Hospital, with more in the pipeline.

What other shows does the club have a presence at?

Our members are very active in the various local Capri clubs, and we will be attending a number of events this year to celebrate the Capri’s 50th anniversary including the Classic Ford Show on June 2.

What are the club’s goals for the future?

What does the future hold? I can only see the group going from strength to strength in its support of the Capri World community - all Capri and Classic Ford fans are welcome to join us.
