Leaking Mk3

-

Q I have a Mk3 Granada pre-facelift saloon. My problem is the passenger front footwell is soaking wet! All three other footwells are fine and I am trying to find out where the scuttle drainage points are because I believe there is a blockage causing this. I do not think the sunroof or door seals are at fault because my wife poured water down the windscreen onto the scuttle area and the water poured inside the car eliminating the sunroof/door seal question as far as I can see. Where are the scuttle/ engine bay water drains? Andrew Mitchell

UK A Tricky one! We asked multiple Mk3 owner, Ian Leonard about this, and this is what he told us:

“I too have experienced this on one of my cars — after it had rained there would be a water patch in the passenger front footwell on top of the rubber mat. I searched high and low and count find it, but eventually I remembered my first car, a Mk4 Cortina, had a similar problem and I found that water was getting in from wheelarch, and entering through a channel in the bulkhead and ending up running down the inside of the door pillar and onto the floor. At the time I just stuffed a rag in there to stop the leak, however with the Granada, it just suddenly stopped on it’s own without my patented fix.”

“Sorry to say I really can’t solve the problem, but would suggest looking at the door pillar and whether there is water coming in there and dripping down and running out onto the floorpan.”
