LOCKDOWN PROJECTS

-

Get it built! Six of your projects from all corners of the planet.

Homebuilt Hero: James Philips From: UK “I’ve owned my Mk1 RS2000 for 24 years now,” says James, which is an impressive feat in itself. “After my last classic car show with the car in 2019 I thought it could do with a tidy up so I cut off the roof panel — as you can see, it was a bit of a mess! I’ve fitted a new one and am now in the process of sorting the rest of the car along which will be followed a full respray.”

“It’s far from perfect but I’m pleased with the results considering it’s all being done at home on the drive and in my single garage.”

Looks pretty great to us, James!

Work out what you want the project to end up as before you start, otherwise there’s a risk it’ll end up looking confused.

A big project is only many small projects joined together — get one bit of it done, and you’ll find that suddenly you’ve made massive progress.

Sometimes funds spent in the right place can move your project on leaps and bounds.

Finish one car before starting the next, or you’ll never get them done.

Don’t be afraid to admit defeat on some tasks — using specialists for specific jobs such as paintwork or machining makes perfect sense.

Homebuilt Hero: Laurent Brasseur From: Belgium “I’ve started the renovation of my baby in the last few weeks,” says Laurent. “It’s my first car which I’ve owned since 1993, and is a 49,000 km, 1978 1100L and I’m only the second owner. I’m restoring the bodywork but there will be a few mechanical upgrades along the way including a 1600 Crossflow and gearbox from a Mk1 1300GT.”
