A pioneering, stay-at-home charity classic car event has proven to be a massive success. Classics for Carers, which encouraged owners to display their classic cars at their own homes, smashed through its £1500 target to raise almost £16,000 and counting for NHS Charities Together.

The event was the brainchild of Nick Chivers, a classic car owner and enthusiast with friends who work in the NHS. With so many events cancelled or postponed due to Covid-19, the idea was that fellow owners would buy the event’s rally plate or sticker and affix it to their classic car or bike, with the profits from each sale going to the charity.

The big day came on June 7, with owners opening their garage doors, pulling covers off or arranging vehicles on their driveways for the passing public to enjoy seeing on their daily exercise. Folk were also encouraged to share their cars on the Classics for Carers’ Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.

Classics For Carers is still accepting donations via its JustGiving page — find out more at www.classicsforcarers.com.
