CLASSIC FORD EVENT NRW
Despite being home to Ford’s Cologne factory, the Rhineland region of Germany didn’t have its own big Blue Oval show — until now!
The Rhineland in the west of Germany is the home region of German-built Fords. Cologne in NorthrhineWestphalia (NRW) is the home town of the German Ford factory.
You might think that this region of Germany should be especially interesting when it comes to activities around the Ford brand, but in fact, the show situation here is not much better than everywhere else in the country. There are smaller shows and there are meetings for specific models, yet for a larger Ford event, enthusiasts previously had to travel to The Netherlands, Belgium or the UK.
Based in NRW are a number of Ford clubs, so the urge to organise a home show grew. A number of Ford enthusiasts around Oldtimer NRW teamed up to set up an alternative show, and if you were ever in the position to organise such an event, you know that it can be quite difficult to find the right place. Luckily the organisers had the right idea when teaming up with Mo’s Bikertreff in Krefeld. Originally a meeting place for bikers, Mo’s now hosts a whole range of classic car shows throughout the summer. Situated next to an ice hockey stadium, there’s space for about 400 cars and the place provides food and drinks — a good location for a car meeting.
More than 340 classic Fords attended the event – an excellent result. The range was impressive — from Fiestas to Granadas and Consuls. The oldest example was a Ford A from 1930, there were Transits, there were Sierras and there were many different models of the Taunus plus two of the beautiful Ford OSIs, and even a GT.
No superlatives, no rip-off entry fees — the third edition of the Classic Ford Event NRW was an excellent show that raised 2500 Euros for a children’s cancer charity.
