Iwas pleased to see you’d acquired a Triumph 2500 estate as a CM project car. The Jaguar X-Type is an interestin­g choice (and I own a similar example myself) but it’s good to see you picking a ’70s classic again. Hopefully it won’t need as much welding as your Morris Traveller did!

I ran a string of 2000 and 2500 estates back in the day and found them to be fast, comfortabl­e and spacious. Even the often-criticised Lucas injection was reliable in my experience. I replaced my last 2500 with a Ford Granada but although it was more modern it somehow lacked the Triumph’s charm.
