Can I convert my 1970 Austin 1300GT to the later, bigger A Plus idler gear set up? Mine is whining and as part of an engine rebuild and mild upgrade, I want to eliminate this annoying weak point.
You can. You will need the Metro/APlus drop gears and the clutch end casing, and you’ll need to take the gearbox casing to a machine shop and get the existing bearing hole line bored to suit. A-Plus drop gears are almost unknown to fail, so a good idea.
