I have a 1984 528i with a dying automatic gearbox, it’s second rebuild and ‘flaring’ in the gears. I’m fed up with it now and was to convert to manual - I’ve found a later E34 535i box, will that do the job?

A:

Yes. You need an E28 525i/528i flywheel and clutch, a Getrag 260 gearbox (M30), a prop and a pedal box. Use the later post 1986 pedal box because it uses the £25 clutch master cylinder and not the £200 one! A bit of light wiring, remove the old cooler pipework, job done.
