LET'S HAVE A BOOK ON IT

- Alex McKuhn Ed

I always enjoy the Kelsey Collector's Edition range of books, and I wonder if Kelsey could produce one on the Rover 75/MG ZT, which are such unique and reliable 'British' cars? I own a Rover 75 Connoisseur V6 from 2001, and I must admit it is the best car I have ever owned. I have experienced no rust or electrical gremlins, the KV6 engine is reliable, and I get 32mpg on a long run. Obviously it was down to BMW's input at the time plus Rover's eye for classic lines, and the car has been likened to a mini Bentley Arnage due to various styling similarities. On long runs the car is extremely comfortable (compared to my Mercedes), has an excellent ride, is roomy, and has a decent boot whereby the rear seat folds down.

When Rover closed in 2005, the presses were shipped to China and the car was built there as a Roewe 750. Unfortunately, this model was never exported to Europe. Prices at present are rock bottom, but as they are collectors' cars, they will climb in due course. Besides the saloon, there is also the estate, and we nearly got a two-door coupé and a soft top as well. There is a video called Code Name R40, the Story of the Rover 75 and MG ZT which explains the history.

I am also a big fan of the model Alex, having owned an MG ZT for six very enjoyable years. We did review that DVD in the January 2021 issue, but if any readers missed it, then you can check out that and many other motoring DVDs from the talented John Clancy at www.triumphdvd.co.uk. As for the potential of a book, you may be interested to know that Kelsey have started a quarterly publication in the Collector's Edition series on the Best of British Leyland, and that the first of these focuses on the MG-Rover years – so not solely on the Rover 75/ MG ZT, but including them along with the other the cars of that era. You can find that on https://shop.kelsey.co.uk by searching for BL, or call Customer Services on 01959 543747 – Ed

That must have been very frustrating for you, David. I'm surprised that Halfords had the mineral oil and not DOT 4, which is far and away the most frequently used. What a pity that a simple mistake has caused you so much grief, though of course it could have been a lot worse if you'd ventured out onto the road right away and it had failed at speed –
