Citroën ID19
The Citroën DS and its cheaper ID sibling look way too glamorous for serious rallying, but their strength, superb suspension and FWD all helped to make them formidable competitors in longdistance events throughout their production life, and the rougher the roads, the better! This ID19 is being piloted by Frenchmen Paul Coltelloni and Jean- Louis Lemerle in 1960, we think on the Alpine Rally where they came home in 12th place out of 39 finishers. The model defeated all- comers in many other high profile events, but our sympathies will always be with Lucien Bianchi and Jean- Claude Ogier, who were leading the 1968 London-Sydney Marathon with just 98 miles to go when their DS was wrecked by a local idiot driving the other way in a Mini.
