Beyond SilverLine: Meet Sigmund

-

D16’s SilverLine Collection covers practically all creative needs, but you may be wondering why there’s no delay device on offer. It’s because there’s a far more powerful sibling in the D16 family: Sigmund (9/10, 198, €69), a colossal delay plugin named after a mythological Norse warrior.

While the silver-clad collection’s modus operandi is streamlined simplicity, Sigmund offers a breadth of features to rival any delay plugin currently on the market. It’s comprised of four discrete delay lines, each of which features its own multimode filter, overdrive and amplitude modulator, independent of the feedback loop. There are also two global modulators for handsfree movement of the delay lines’ internal parameters, both of which can be switched between an LFO, transient-detecting envelope and peak follower. The routing section is also extremely powerful: choose from nine preset topologies to instantly switch the routing of your delay setup.

For greater insight, we asked D16 Group’s Sebastian Bachlinski how Sigmund came into being.

“We originally planned to release Sigmund as a SilverLine effect, but under a different name. At the planning stage, it was just a synced delay – a single line delay with no modulation, plus a multimode filter. However, the project became bigger and bigger over time. Some of us (here at D16) are semi-professional musicians, and at Sigmund’s design stage, there was no other delay that offered the type of capabilities and complexity we’d expect. So, we decided to go further and make a multi-tap version with some nice touches such as filters, distortion and modulators.”

Sigmund isn’t available as part of our amazing D16 SilverLine effects offer – full details of which are on the next page – as it’s not a SilverLine plugin, but look at it this way: take advantage of our insane special deal and you can put the cash you’ll save towards Sigmund!
