Shaping up the Jupiter-8 bassline

-

Alex has recorded in 80 bars of synth bassline, which translates to roughly two and a half minutes at the project’s tempo of 123bpm. “By the time I load [the audio] in, I’ve got all these different sections. Not everything might work, but at least I can cut it up and replace sections, repeat sections, and that’s how I really like to work.” Alex adds Live’s Compressor to the bassline track, and sets the sidechain input to the silent kick drum channel. He then filters out the sub-45Hz frequencies with EQ Eight, then compresses the signal with Waves Kramer PIE, making sure to turn the effect’s Analog mode off: “It adds hiss, and everything is analogue here already!” Alex then uses Waves PuigTec MEQ5 to dip the 200Hz range.
