Stringing things up

“When we got to this part of the track, we knew we had to bring in another element to pick it up again,” says Jon. “We wanted to use some strings, which we’d done in Maasai and other tracks before, but without them sounding too orchestral. So we used Solina V from Arturia, which is an old string machine.

“It sounds 80s, a bit Stranger Things, doesn’t it? It’s pretty simple – only three notes – but it went with what we already had in there, and it made it sound a little bit more sinister. You only hear these once in the track, but you only need them once – it makes people want more the next time they hear it.”
