Getting back to bassics

16:02 OC & Verde tracks are known for their rolling, Reese-like basslines, and Solstice is no exception. “The bass is embarrassingly simple,” grins Jon. “I’ve had phone calls from other producers asking where the bass is from, but it’s just from the EXS24. It’s exactly the same note all the way through – it’s basically just a sub, really!”

Ben explains how it works: “Because the kick is quite subby, it just goes with it. When we started off, the bass wasn’t that heavy. We were trying to make a lighter track. I think we tested the track out and it didn’t have the ‘pump’ if you were playing it in a big room – it just didn’t have that depth. That’s why we added the sub.”
