Charity shop vibes

-

36:17Drew might be known for his work on Villem & McLeod’s sample packs, but Steve’s an old-fashioned crate digger… sort of. “I’ll go to a charity shop and just rinse out their collection of CD albums that are 50p each, take them home, and then spend the next month, every spare minute, sampling a bit of clean guitar, a clean break… Some of our best drum fills have been from a Chas & Dave CD that I found in the Cancer Research shop! We’ve only managed to get them because of the flippin’ hours I’ve spent going through that stuff! Take the CDs back to the charity shop afterwards, and everyone’s a winner.”

Now the track’s taking shape, Steve goes searching for a few more samples from his collection. He goes back to do some work on the percussion. Because the track is already starting to form, it’s easy for Steve to recognise samples that will fit, and because he didn’t overthink the loop at the start, there’s space to add these new sounds into the mix.
