Ableton Live 10 POWER GUIDE DOWNLOAD
Master all the new features of Ableton’s newly updated DAW as we guide you through its features and improvements
Ableton Live broke the mould. Back at the turn of the century, other DAWs stubbornly stuck to the timelines and tracks that producers had been familiar with for years, ignoring the fact that times had changed and new approaches were possible. But with its minimalist aesthetic, drag-and-drop functionality, and of course the Session View that sparked non-linear creativity and performance, Live – more often known simply as ‘Ableton’ – blazed its own trail through the world of production, becoming one of the most recognisable, inventive, and successful pieces of music software to date. Now in 2018, Live continues to innovate, as those other DAWs still cling onto their hardware paradigms and horizontal timelines.
Live’s first few years saw the program settling into the landscape and finding its feet, truly becoming the DAW we know today. Stability has always been a key aspect of Live – v9 of Ableton’s software stuck around on that particular plateau for a whole five years!
It’s not that development ceased in that time, though – Ableton’s Push controller was introduced, bringing forth a revolutionary hands-on approach to DAW control. The era of point-updates followed, as successive versions of Live 9 introduced new filters, an updated Simpler instrument, Link functionality and more. Finally, Ableton have decided to put the fullstop on version 9 and bring us version 10. So what’s new?
Ableton Live 10 might not seem like the biggest update ever, but its changes and streamlinings all create a better user experience befitting any modern producer, and bring the DAW in line with its peers in many key ways. We have the new Wavetable synth, fresh effects in the form of Echo and Drum Buss, and welcome updates to old hands like EQ Eight and Utility. Elsewhere, small but significant changes all add up, and Max for Live is now more integrated than ever.
We’ve spent the last couple of months getting stuck into the public beta, and it’s time for us to bring you the definitive guide to all the new devices and features. As we’re using the beta, bear in mind that there could be some final changes before the official release in February 2018.
But why are we waffling on about the new stuff? Wouldn’t you like to see the new features in glorious technicolour videograms and learn how to use this new stuff for yourself? Well, flip the page and we’ll turn you into a Live 10 maestro!
