THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC

Research released by Music for All to mark Learn to Play Day 2019 has confirmed what we knew all along: there are numerous physical and mental health benefits to making music regularly. Well, apart from when you’re banging your head on a wall trying to finish a mix, that is.

GRAND DESIGNS

It feels like they’ve taken their time, but Roland have finally filed an application in Germany to trademark the designs of their TB-303 Bassline Synth and TR-808 drum machine. Is this a response to the coming launch of Behringer’s RD-808? Time will tell…

’CLOUD COVERAGE

You might’ve thought SoundCloud would see the likes of Spotify and Apple Music as rivals, but subscribe to the company’s Premier tier, and you can now distribute your music to them at no additional charge. You get to keep all your rights and distribution royalties, too.

TEENAGE TROUBLES

Not a great time for synth maker Teenage Engineering. First they had to halt production of two new mini modular products announced at the NAMM Show, then they revealed that the only way that the OP-1 could return was with a massive price hike.

PLUG IN, DROP OUT

Worrying news from users of Apple’s latest Mac products: they’ve been reporting audio dropouts and glitches when using USB 2.0 audio interfaces. The Cupertino company hadn’t commented as we went to press, but let’s hope it’s sorted soon.

WHAT THE JEFF?

We’ve seen many musical plagiarism cases recently, but here’s a new one: techno legend Jeff Mills accidentally released a track, PatterninNature, but it was actually produced by a different artist altogether (Julien H Mulder). Whoops!
