Version 2 of Cherry Audio’s Voltage Modular has landed, introducing a raft of profound changes and new features to one of the most expansive and powerful software modular synthesis systems on the market.
First – and, for some, foremost – will be the addition of a number of new modules to the Voltage Modular Core package, including the Poly Vintage and Poly Super Oscillators, Poly Ladder Filter and Poly
Super Envelope Generator, Spectrum Analyzer, MIDI File Player, Octal Switch and Micro Mult. Many of the incumbent modules have been redesigned and improved as well, with linear FM being worked into the Oscillator, resonance modulation added to the Filter, and the Delay module offering tempo sync, for example.
The biggest changes, however, are to Voltage Modular 2’s patching capabilities and workflow. For starters, there’s now no limit to the number of cables that can be connected to any patch point (up from the previous maximum of six), and all cables connected to a jack can now be dragged collectively to another jack – careful with that one! Then there are the new signal busses for grouping jacks, the ability to hide all cables at a click, randomisation of module parameters, and patch variations, the last letting you store multiple parameter states within a patch, then switch between them manually or via CV input for complex generative performances. Modules can now be tagged for organisation in the library, too, and the built-in recorder captures your performances as 32-bit audio.
