SILICON SAVINGS

Given their use of new tech, you might have thought that Apple’s first silicon-powered MacBooks would be more expensive than their current Intel counterpar­ts, but one rumour suggests that they could cost up to $200 less. Let’s hope so.

TA-STRUM!

It emerged this month that the swell you hear at the end of the Netflix ‘ta-dum’ sound is actually a processed reversed guitar from one of a sound designer’s old unused 90s recordings. Just shows that it’s always worth holding on to your tracks, they might come in useful.

PUMP UP THE ONLINE JAM

Being able to play ‘online and in time’ with other musicians is definitely something there’s a demand for, and with Aloha, Elk say they’ve come up with a platform that enables you to do it. The demo videos certainly look promising, so here’s hoping.

NAMM CANNED

Covid-19 has claimed yet another big event on the musicmakin­g calendar: the 2021 Winter NAMM Show, usually the launchpad for all manner of new products, has now been cancelled. It will be replaced by a virtual event called Believe In Music.

NOT SWELL FOR INTEL

As if Apple transition­ing away from their chips wasn’t bad enough, Intel have also said that their next-gen 7nm processors will be delayed until 2022, leaving a gap in the market that others could exploit. A manufactur­ing defect is said to be to blame.

After more than a decade at the helm of Native Instrument­s, both Co-Founder and CEO Daniel Haver and Chief Innovation Officer and President Mate Galic are stepping down, making way for a “new generation” of leaders from within the company.
