Naughty: comparing DAW features
Dear
I am really a bit upset about the current issue of with a title like Logic vs Live.
I cannot understand you releasing such an article, especially as Logic was already covered in the August issue of (title: Logic Goes Live). Why are you sacrificing eight pages in the September issue for the same thing, especially as it is only interesting for Apple fanboys? For PC users the question of whether to use Logic or Live does not come up at all.
It is indeed very interesting to read about new features and workflow improvements in DAWs and I also want to be informed about Logic, but one article would really have been enough.
I also find it quite interesting to compare DAW features and I am also using Live (not Logic as I have no Apple computer) but to be honest, from reading both your articles, I see more parallels with other DAWs.
The Live Mode looks more like it was inspired by the Performance Mode in Image Line’s FLStudio rather than Live’s Session Mode, which was copied first by Bitwig (they have both Session view and Performance Mode using the original names).
The new step sequencer in Logic looks like a clone from Presonus’ Studio One step sequencer with some of the extras from FLStudio’s step sequencer. Does Ableton Live have one at all? And concerning Presonus Studio One – they upgraded to version 5 in July and I still did not read anything about it in the September issue of !
Comparing DAW features is a nice thing, especially when thinking about a “modular DAW” which you mentioned from user feedback in the last Backchat. And I always like to read about the advantages/ disadvantages of DAW features and how they are realised compared to other DAWS, but they should be compared across most DAWs – not just between two.
So my wish is that leaves out those “X vs Y” sensational headlines/articles – because otherwise your magazine’s quality is drifting downwards towards all the other “standard” audio mags... Frank Biedermann, Friedrichdorf,

Some good points there Frank and thanks for marking your email with ‘naughty’ as I requested. I like that. The Logic 10.5 release was big news though, so we felt duty bound to cover it in depth in one issue and the second ‘comparison’ feature was very different from the first. And you’ll have hopefully seen the Studio One review (10/10) last issue, so rest assured we do try and spread the coverage across as many DAWs as possible.
