Audient’s EVO goes up to 16

-

We’re big fans of Audient interfaces here at Computer Music and have even heaped a couple of awards on the company’s EVO 4 (2-in, 2-out) compact interface. As expected with compact interfaces, though, they tend to get less compact as time passes and since looking at the 4, Audient have released an 8 (4-in, 4-out) interface and now – hot off the press – the EVO 16.

If you’ve paid attention thus far, you’d probably expect that the 16 features eight inputs and outputs. Well, you’d be wrong as the number refers to the number of “awardwinning EVO Preamps” so the EVO 16 actually features a massive 24 ins and outs.

It’s not just breaking the ‘compact’ mould in terms of connectivity but also in terms of form and function. It’s now a wide desktop or rack interface and brings with it a rather superb-looking colour screen that uses Audient’s new Motion UI technology. We’ll let them explain: “Motion UI uses the wide angle screen to intelligently display information on your session, making any interaction with EVO 16 a fully immersive, easy-to-use experience.” Basically it looks damn fine and imparts lots of information.

EVO 16 also has the rather brilliant Smart Gain feature that we loved about the EVO 4 (that lets you set an automatic gain with a single button press) but applies it to all eight mic pre inputs.

“We wanted to super-size the EVO concept,” says Audient’s Andy Allen. “EVO 16 offers the same intuitive user experience, professional sound and technical quality with plenty more I/O, yet it still fits firmly into the ‘affordable’ audio interface category.”

EVO 16 will cost you a minimum retail price of £399.99/€469/$499.

?? ?? EVO 16 certainly delivers a lot of i/o and a rather great screen for a shade under £400
