Ins & outs

FROM ME TO YOU British musician James Blake has launched Vault, a new streaming platform that allows artists to make money sharing unreleased music to their fans. Blake said: “It’s music direct from me to you, where no-one can gatekeep what I release to you, or delay my releases.”

BLUES TR-AI-N Developed by former employees of TikTok and Meta, Suno is an AI music-generator with scarily impressive results. In a recent demo of the text-to-music plaftorm’s next iteration, it created a Delta blues piece named Soul of the Machine. It’s a jaw-dropping listen.

IN BLOOM We saw it in action on the floor of the NAMM show, but Oeksound’s Bloom was released this month: a really rather special “adaptive tone shaper” (read: stick in on your mix bus and be astounded at the results). Our review of Bloom can be read on p72.

MOOGING ON Last month, Moog announced it was leaving its iconic Moog Music building in Asheville, Carolina. Moog Music President Joe Richardson said that the move places Moog closer to the city centre, “where so much creativity and musical expression lives”.

A VISION OF TOMORROW Influential YouTuber Rick Beato recently predicted what the future of streaming platforms might look like. In an interview with News 8 WROC, he foresaw that people will be able to choose from an artist’s original tracks, and AI-build approximations. Eek.

PUTTING IT BLUNTLY James Blunt was none-too impressed with AI’s take on his style.“Either AI comes up with something very, very generic, or my lyrics are just absolutely mundane,” he told Chris Difford’s I Never Thought It Would Happen podcast. So, who’s to blame?
