INNISFAIL
The major service hub for Queensland’s Cassowary Coast Region, Innisfail is a lush, tropical destination with a population th of of around 10,000. located 90 kilometres south of cairns at the junction of the north and south john stone rivers, agriculture is the dominant industry, with bananas, sugar cane and tropical fruit well established. The area was home to the Mamu people before European settlement, which dates back to the 1870s. Today, Innisfail’s proximity to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park and Wet Tropics Rainforest means it’s a draw for tourists, including backpackers who seek work in the banana plantations.
