NSW Forbes Farmers Markets, May 26 This monthly market is held in Victoria Park, which is surrounded by some of the town’s most beautiful historic buildings, including the town hall and courthouse, two churches and the Vandenberg Hotel. It’s a pleasant destination at any time, but on market days the park comes alive and is a social hub for farming families, townies, family and friends to catch up. They go home with full baskets: bread, muffins and pastries from Peewees bakery from Bathurst; shaved ham from the ever-popular Trunkey Bacon and Pork from Orange; jams and pickles from Curra Creek Figs and Fine Foods, cashew and almond butters, and bliss balls from Ellie Mays Homemade Goods. Victoria Park, Forbes. 8am to noon. forbes.nsw.gov.au

Growers’ Green Farmers’ Market, every Sunday There’s a terrific atmosphere at what locals refer to as the South Freo Farmers’ Market. Every week, 50 stalls are set up on the lawn under the fig trees at the front of the school: the number swells on the first Sunday of the month when fashion designers, leather workers, jewellers and woodworkers join the farmers and food producers who attend every other week. Fantastic grocery shopping — including Wild Bakery’s sourdough; crisp greens, eggs and award-winning marmalade from Della Fresh; organic kale and fresh herbs from Maus Organic Produce; and Bookara’s fluffy goat’s curd — is right up there as a reason to visit, but so is eating. You must try Bubble and Bimble’s take on bubble ‘n’ squeak — it’s a potato cake served with a poached egg, dollop of avocado mash, hollandaise and beetroot dust. Expect great music and fun for the kids. Dogs are welcome but plastic bags are not. Fremantle College, Lefroy Road, Beaconsfield. 8am to noon. growersgreenfarmersmarket.com
