SARAH STEIN

-

PUBLICIST, BOOKSHOP OWNER AND RESTAURATEUR, 51 Sarah is co-owner of Padstow Bookseller, UK, and Rick Stein at Bannisters in Mollymook. Your family has been going to Mollymook for the last 35 years. What do you love about it? Its pristine beach, complete with turquoise water and squeaky white sand. Also, knowing that when I go to the shops, I will likely run into someone I’ve known for ages. A good example is Annette, who has been selling me lamingtons in the Mollymook bakery for the past 30 years! Describe your style. Eclectic. I like to buy clothes that are made locally and as I travel a lot, I have clothes from places such as Italy, Spain, Iceland, Portugal, Mexico, Hawaii and Australia. I’m attracted to texture, embroidery and bright colours although, saying that, in the evening I love a classic, navy slim-fitting dress. What’s your typical outfit? In winter, a Bella Freud cashmere jumper, high-waisted Donna Ida velvet trousers and wedge black Gucci boots (they’re never allowed to fall apart!) and a felt hat. In summer, I love wearing kaftans; it means you can eat a lot and still feel glamorous. Wardrobe essentials? My Louis Vuitton ‘Neverfull MM’ bag — it’s my portable office — and sneakers, as I walk everywhere. Also, gilets [vests]; I really feel the cold and they act as my security blanket. Plus, white T-shirts and my Helen Kaminski straw hat. What are your go-to beauty products? Bumble and Bumble Thickening Shampoo, Dr Bronner’s Pure-castile Liquid Soap and By Terry Cellularose Brightening CC Serum. Do you have any favourite accessories? My two Cartier ‘Love’ bracelets given to me by husband, [chef and TV presenter] Rick, one to represent each of my children, Zach and Olivia. What do you never leave home without? A book, phone charger, candle, headphones, Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist and tape measure. If I’m travelling on a plane, I need my leather jacket that I bought at Camden Market 10 years ago, a cashmere wrap and eye mask. How do you achieve a work-life balance? Working with my husband makes it tricky, so we’ve made a rule not to discuss work at dinner and we organise regular holidays. What’s your best style advice? Dress for yourself, not for others.
