ADD A HINT OF SHIMMER TO CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR WITH THESE DECORATIONS YOU CAN MAKE AT HOME.

LETTERS

Personalise your Christmas gifts for family, loved ones and friends, or embellish your place settings with hand-embossed letters. 1 Make templates of the required letters using different lettering styles, either drawn by hand or printed from a computer. 2 Lay a soft cloth or cutting mat underneath the foil and trace the templates onto the foil then cut them out. 3 Working from the back, use an embossing tool or a ballpoint pen to add designs to the letters. Make dotted lines with a tracing wheel if you have one, or use a ruler and the tip of the ballpoint pen. 4 Use the letters instead of gift tags or as place cards on your festive table.

STARS

Make a galaxy of stars to hang or to scatter on the table. 1 Print out or draw stars of different sizes on cardboard and cut them out. 2 Lay a soft cloth or cutting mat underneath a piece of foil and trace the star templates onto the foil using an embossing tool or a ballpoint pen. 3 Cut out the stars. 4 Working from the back of the foil, create different patterns on the stars using the tip of the embossing tool and the tracing wheel, or a ballpoint pen. Add texture with short straight lines or random dots. 5 If you want to hang the stars up, use a sewing needle to make a hole in the top point of the star and carefully pass some thread through to make a hanging loop. >
