Berry Farmers’ Market, every Thursday There’s serious small food producer pedigree at this market — farmers who produce without the use of chemicals, in harmony with nature and because they’re committed to good food. Case in point, cheesemaker Rosie Cupitt, who drives up from Ulladulla with her goat- and cow-milk cheeses. Also on the dairy front, The Pines of Kiama, who have milk, labne, yoghurt, gelato and cheese. Well-known local food advocate and educator Fiona Walmsley from Buena Vista Farm at Gerringong is there with farm-fresh vegetables, sauerkraut, kimchi, honey, bone broth and chicken liver pâté. Add in some sourdough from Kraken Sourdough, who bake in Jervis Bay, and the salad mix Wade Everingham and Josh Hayward grow at Spotted Gum Farm at Wandandian, and you have an easy lunch. 2pm–5pm (winter hours). Berry Showground, 35 Alexandra Street, Berry. 0431 823 078. Ballina Farmers Market, every Sunday Spend your Sunday morning shopping and having breakfast by the water at one of the longest running farmers’ markets in the country. What’s good, you ask? The answer is plenty. With banana cake in mind, fill your basket with Neville Singh’s chemical-free bananas grown outside of Bangalow and a bunch of flowers from George Singh at Singh to Flowers. Nimbin Valley Dairy always delivers — try the Sweet Goat, a semi-hard Italian-style cheese. The vegetables at Red Earth, and cold-pressed macadamia oil and fresh nuts from Uralba Orchard are also good. And don’t leave without tucking into Lucy Ashley’s fresh and smoked oysters at Shuck — or grabbing a loaf of Wild Oats’ Easter special Osterbrot, an egg-enriched loaf that’s plaited around coloured eggs. 6am–11am. Commemoration Park, Bentinck Street, Ballina. ballinafarmersmarket.com.au
