NSW Yamba Farmers and Producers’ Market, every Wednesday The view from this small coastal village carpark is breathtaking, with the pounding Pacific Ocean on one side and the Clarence River on the other. Tear yourself away from the view and you’ll find your senses on full alert courtesy of the abundant displays of food grown in this fertile river region. The range is vast: beef from Geoff Jones’s family farm, Conrad Park at Pillar Valley; Tru Blu Prawns freshly farmed from the Clarence estuary; and firm, plump Orara Downs Blueberries from Levenstrath (near Grafton). You’ll also find Bob Kershaw at Yamba Organic who grows his in-season vegies, from Asian greens to tomatoes, on his Yamba house block. Top breakfast options include homemade pies (featuring Geoff’s beef) from Clarence Coffee. 7am–11am. Whiting Beach Carpark, Harbour Road, Yamba. 0402 404 606; yambafarmersandproducersmarket.com

Wingham Farmers’ Market, September 7th A true Napolitana pizza, with a soft, elastic dough, simple yet flavoursome toppings and a bubbly, charry crust might not be the first thing you’d expect to find at a NSW mid-coast market, but Alessandro and Elle from Pezzella’s have ready-to-eat authentic pizza all wrapped up in this part of the world. Same goes for The Edible Forest, Annette and Les Mulder’s permaculture farm at Wherrol Flat that produces top-quality fresh and cured pork. (Hot tip: the bacon features on the egg and bacon rolls that Janice serves from her coffee cart.) Be sure to pick up some fresh vegies and free-range eggs from Creek Cottage Farm; an ale, lager or stout from The Coastal Brewing Company (made in nearby Foster) and a case of award-winning verdelho from Old Inn Road Vineyard. The market also features handmade crafts, such as scented candles and stained glass. Other pluses — as if you needed them — are it’s a dog-friendly market with no entry fee. 8am–12noon. Wingham Showground, Gloucester Road, Wingham. (02) 6550 7213; winghamfarmersmarket.org.au
