Ring Any Bells? Phone case with vintage style

Remember rotary dial phones? Even if you don’t, we’ll let you off the hook – just stitch our retro-style phone case instead!

Make a… phone case

Step 1

START stitching the dial centrally, 5cm (2in) up from the bottom of the larger piece of fabric, and the receiver centrally and 2.5cm (1in) up from the bottom of the smaller piece.

Step 2

COMPLETE the stitching then lay the stitched receiver and the backing fabric right-sides together, then stitch up the sides and across the top with a 1.25cm (½in) seam allowance. Reduce the seam allowance, clip the corners and turn to the right side. Fold the raw edges at the bottom inside the flap, and press flat.

Step 3

PLACE the stitched dial and the backing fabric right-sides together, then stitch around the edge, leaving the top open, and using the same seam allowance as before. Reduce the seam allowance and clip the corners, before turning to the right side. Turn the raw edges at the top of the case, over and onto the inside of the case, press flat, and then tack around the edge.

Step 4

SLIP the edge of the flap inside the case against the back edge, and then machine stitch around the top of the case, attaching the flap to the case. Stitch Velco dots under the flap to keep the case closed.

You could choose a coloured fabric for the dial section so the fabric looks like the body of the phone
