HOW TO… MAKE A SILHOUETTE STENCIL

Create a cameo-style portrait picture with a card stencil as its focus.

-

Step 1

START by choosing a photograph profile that you wish to turn into a stencil. Next, trace around it with a pencil onto a piece of tracing paper. We chose a photograph profile which measures about 6cm in height.

Step 2

TURN the tracing paper over, so the pencil line is face down, and tape this onto a piece of white card. Use a sharpened pencil to carefully trace around the profile to transfer the pencil outline onto the card.

Step 3

CUT out the silhouette very carefully with a craft knife and a pair of small, sharp scissors. You’ll find it easier to cut the intricate shapes of the profile with a series of cuts, rather than trying to complete it in one go.

Step 4

FINISH cutting the profile from the card, then you can work out where it should be positioned alongside the stitched dandelion clock. To attach it, simply back with double-sided tape and press it on with clean fingers until attached.
