HOW TO… USE A STENCIL TO MAKE A CHART

Use our campervan stencil to create your own colour chart.

Step 1

PHOTOCOPY and print out the campervan template we have included below. Cut out the areas which will be stitched, using our photo as a guide. Next, use a pencil to trace around it onto a sheet of tracing paper.

Step 2

USING the same technique shown in the silhouette project, copy the traced template onto a piece of graph paper. This tracing will now act as your first draft, to help you to work out the stitched design.

Step 3

TAKE a second sheet of graph paper and copy the outline from step 2. Neaten vertical and horizontal lines to follow the grid on the graph paper. For curved lines, use several backstitches – indicated with a series of diagonal dashes here.

Step 4

COMPLETE your backstitch outline – don’t forget for a symmetrical design, once one half has been plotted, it can be mirrored on the other. Colour your chart then stitch the design, using fractional stitches where necessary.
