Cross Stitcher

Make a… caravan pincushion

-

Step 1

PLACE your aida fabric in a portrait position, then stitch the two sides of the caravan, one centrally onto the top half of the fabric, and the other centrally on the bottom, allowing enough space around and between each caravan side for turnings. Stitch the outer backstitch line shown on the chart, as this will help when assembling the caravan.

Step 2

CUT around each caravan side, leaving 1cm (⅜in) of unstitched aida fabric on all sides of the design.

Step 3

PIN the blue cotton fabric onto the edge of the caravan front, with 1cm (⅜in) turnings, starting and finishing at the bottom, and making sure the outer stitched backstitch line is visible. Carefully join the two ends of the blue cotton fabric together, stitching on the wrong side of the fabric, and making sure that once stitched the fabric will still fit the edge of the caravan. Machine stitch the blue cotton fabric in place around the edge of the caravan.

Step 4

WORK on the wrong side and pin the blue cotton fabric to the stitched caravan back, leaving the bottom edge open. Sew in place and then turn through the gap to the right side. Stuff with cotton wool or toy stuffing, and then sew up the gap with small, neat stitches.

Step 5

SEW a button onto the front and the back of the caravan for the wheels.
