Februaryissuchaninteresting month. Oftentimes, the weatherissomeoftheworst oftheyear, yetit’sthemonth wecelebratelove– oneofthebest thingsinthewholeworld! Whata fascinatingdichotomy!
Iwillalwayslookbackonmyfirst Valentine’sDayasabrand-spankingnewwifewithasmile, andabitof embarrassment. Myhusband, Spencer, andIhadjustgottenmarriedamonth earlier. So, inanefforttomakeita specialdayandstartournewmarriage offontherightfoot, Ibought Valentine’sDayballoonsand decoratedourapartmentwehad justmovedinto. Iboughttonsof ingredientsandcookedforhoursand hours, onlytocomeupwiththe strangestmealyou’veeverheardof: shrimpcocktail, salad, overdone chickenparmesanwithgnocchiand redpeppertomatocreamsauce. Oh, androlls.
Imean– itsoundsgood, intheory. AndIrememberittastedfine enough. Butitwassuchanodd mosh-mosh, andIdistinctly rememberfeelinglikeallthat cookingwasnotworththeeffort! Iwasexhausted!
Luckily, Valentine’sDayhas generatedmany, manyfond memoriessincethen, inadditionto thatfirstwell-meaningeffort. Infact, I’vecometoreallyenjoytheholiday formorereasonsthanflowersand candy.(Althoughtheyarenice!)
