You could sandwich a layer of card between the front and back fabric pieces of the ears before sewing up if you wish them to remain upright

Make a… bunny bag Step 1

STITCH each ear in the centre of one piece of Rose Cashel. To create the bag shape, using a tea plate, mark a circle on the back of the Platinum Cashel, at the bottom of the fabric, extending the sides up to create a square top to the bag. Stitch the bunny face in the centre of the circle.

Step 2

CUT two strips of Platinum Cashel, each 2.5x20cm (1x8in). Turn under the edges and then stitch each strip across the top of the front and back of the bag, approximately 5cm (2in) above the eyes and centrally on the fabric – leave the short ends open to thread the ribbon through.

Step 3

PLACE each stitched ear right-sides together on a piece of backing fabric, and stitch around the ear with a 1.25cm (½in) seam allowance, leaving approximately 1.5cm (⅝in) of blank fabric outside of the cross stitch. The ear should have a point at the top and be open at the bottom for turning. Trim some of the seam allowance away, clip the curves and turn to the right side.

Step 4

USE the stitched bag front as a template to cut a bag back and two lining pieces from your cotton fabric. Place the stitched bag front and bag back right-sides together, and then stitch around the curved bottom and up the sides with a 1.25cm (½in) seam allowance, leaving the top open. Trim away some of the allowance, clip the curves and turn to the right side. Repeat with the two pieces of lining fabric, leaving on the wrong side.

Step 5

INSERT the lining into the bag. Fold down the top edge of the bag and the lining inside the bag. Press in place. Insert the end of each ear in between the bag and the bag lining. Move the ears down so that the cross stitch on the ears is just touching the top of the bag. Machine stitch around the top of the bag to hold the ear and lining in place. Thread a length of ribbon through the front and back channel at the top of the bag. Tie the ends together in a knot.
