MAKE A… SANTA MATCHBOX GIFT BOX

Create a cute way to present mini gifts using a humble matchbox!

-

Step1

CUT around the stitched rectangle, one square outside the design, following the blue cutting line, using small, sharp scissors. On the long sides make the cut slightly closer to the stitching so that you get a nice, neat finish on the ends of the matchbox.

Step 2

PLACE the design face-down on the table and use a steel ruler to make folds across the stitching on the red backstitch lines that separate the different stitching areas. Make one fold at a time, gently bending the paper into a matchbox shape – you’ll have an unstitched flap at the end.

Step3

WRAP the cover around a white craft matchbox, and once you are happy with the folds and the fit, use strips of double-sided tape to attach it to the craft matchbox. The unstitched flap should be stuck to the box, with the last Merry Christmas side panel over the top.

Step 4

CHANGE the stitched greeting if you like – why not stitch the recipient’s name on the side panels? If you prefer you can make your own matchbox tray out of white card, and then back the stitched perforated paper with white card to stiffen it before assembling it into a cover.
