Stitching with Jess

ullo! I don’t know about you, but one of my absolute favourite ways to relax (apart from cross stitching, of course!) is to lose myself in a world of wonder, excitement, and intrigue in a big ol’ book. No maer what time of year or what I’m busy with, I can always find time to hide away with a story.

Growing up, I used to lose myself in books. I spent many an evening under the covers with a torch after lights out, risking the wrath of my parents because I needed to finish just one more chapter. After long nights of adventures and bold deeds and magic spells, I was often a lile tired when geing ready for school in the morning! It was always worth it though.

If you’re like me and you love big books, then this bookmark paern will be right up your alley!

I love the benefits that come with reading. Like cross stitch, reading keeps our brains sharp. Watching TV is great for relaxing, but it is very passive – you can’t really improve your skills for watching TV! But you can indeed beer your cross stitch or reading skills and the benefits from those skills will cross into all aspects of your life.

When you cross stitch, you’re practicing patience, you’re improving your hand-eye co-ordination, and your problem solving all the time. Reading is similar – you’re improving your vocabulary, you’re expanding your understanding of multiple points of view and becoming more empathetic, and you’re exercising your brain! And if there’s one thing I love, it’s exercising without having to get out of my chair.

All of this said, I have a deep, dark confession to make: I dog-ear the pages of my books to mark my place. I know, it’s blasphemy! I have always done it, but this series is a fantastic opportunity to change my evil ways. Over the next six issues, I’ll be bringing you six different bookmark cross stitch paerns. If I haven’t cross stitched myself at least one bookmark by the end of it, I’ll be extremely disappointed with myself!

I love when passions collide, and bookmarks are an excellent way to mix and match your cross stitch passions with your love of reading. This paern will take you no time at all, then you can get back to your story with a perfect bookmark to hold your place. Stitch boldly!
