The Hidden Gem Of Sicily

-

Sicilian sandstone, a beautiful material responsible for the distinct look of Sicily, is now available in a tile format thanks to Italian brand Cooperativa Ceramica D’Imola. And it’s available in Singapore thanks to Hafary.

Sitting just off the ‘toe’ of Italy’s boot, Sicily is a cultural melting pot that is home to no less than seven UNESCO World Heritage sites. The island is one of the most visually recognisable places in the world thanks to its heritage towns and distinct baroque architectural masterpieces.

Sandstone is one of the relatively hidden gems on the island. Soft, fairly porous and available in a variety of colours ranging from yellow and white to greige and dark grey, Sicilian sandstone has been widely used in Sicily’s historic cities (such as Siracusa, Noto and Modica) for centuries. It plays an important role in crafting the image of the island.

Founded in 1874, Cooperativa Ceramica d’Imola (Imola) is one of Italy’s leading ceramic tile manufacturers. The company has set the benchmark in Italy’s ceramic sector by balancing tradition and innovation and interpreting the needs of the market. Thanks to Imola, the rugged beauty of Sicilian sandstone is now available in tile format.

Sicily is a glazed porcelain tile collection suitable for both floor and wall applications. The collection comprises four colours in various formats, as well as a mosaic version that includes all the colour variants. Each tile is unique, featuring subtle variation in texture and colour just like natural stone.

The Sicily collection is a versatile tribute to the island’s layered history that looks equally at home in classic and modern spaces. A curated selection of Sicily tiles (1200 x 600mm in grey and dark grey) is available in Singapore from leading tile purveyor Hafary.

Don’t have the time to visit the showroom and select the tiles in person? Don’t worry, for that there is the Hafary App, through which you can browse the tiles, save a list and share.
