Timber from Norway treated with Kebony technology (chemical treatment to remove moisture so it doesn’t warp) fades to a charming grey over time. There are few Singaporea­ns who favour the faded look of timeworn timber; most are subservien­t to the culture of newness. But Han appreciate­s its beauty. “People here don’t like things to tarnish. Hopefully this project can change that perception. I find old buildings in Europe very beautiful because they have aged well,” he says.
