design

Vredestein has created this Senso T All Weather competition tubular using its new all-weather silica (AWS) rubber compound and TriComp Technology. Our 23mm test examples had a maximum inflated diameter of 22.5mm and weighed a reasonable 288g each. TriComp tyres have a central rubber compound that differs from that used on the shoulders, with the aim of optimising rolling resistance, grip and durability. The flexible casing is protected from punctures by a central polyamide fabric layer beneath the tread, aiding its all-round credentials. The AWS rubber compound feels very soft to the touch, particularly on the shoulders, moving slightly across the surface when pressed, and this translates to cornering as if on the proverbial rails. Angled sipes help to disperse water and bite in to the road, giving great confidence in mixed conditions.

PER FOR MAN CE

Low rolling resistance and high grip is always going to mean compromise, and though the Senso’s slick centre and TriComp design produce raceworthy speed, the trade-off is in lifespan. They don’t cut easily, but did show signs of wear quicker than the Contis, with identical use. Ride quality is good and they’re light considering their thicker rubber – but they’d be better still as a wider tyre.

Brilliant cornering and fast, but they wear quite quickly
