URBAN RIDING SUNGLASSES

£29.95-£150 › Add some street style to your sunnies this summer

-

BBB BSG-46 STREET £29.95

The budget price hides top performing glasses, with the polarised lenses offering 100 per cent UV protection. The lenses eliminate glare but flatten textures a bit. They’re light (22.5g) so bounce around when riding over bumpy surfaces, and their smooth matt finish doesn’t grip that well. For tarmac rides, they’re well-priced and stylish.

RUDY PROJECT SPINHAWK SLIM £71.95

The lenses are Rudy’s Multi LS Blue that we’ve tested on many high-end shades and the clarity, fog resistance and anti-glare properties are up there with the best around. At 27.9g, they’re not the lightest, but the tenacious grip of the stiffly-sprung frame makes these some of the best for riding in.

UVEX LGL 29 £29.99

The LGL29’s red mirror finish lenses look good, but do come up dark so are best suited for sunny days. The matt finish frame is lightly sprung, so holds well on smoother roads but can bump around when things get rougher. The pronounced sweep to the lenses makes them great when riding at speed and the 25.2g weight is barely noticeable.

TIFOSI HAGEN XL BRONZE POLARISED CLARION £74.99

The clarity from the Clarions is superb, and despite having basically flat lenses these worked well on the bike, shielding both sun and wind well and not fogging too much when working hard. The 27.5g weight combined with sprung metal hinges adds quality, helping them stay put over bumpy terrain.

LAZER FRANK £39.99

The Franks are the sportiest glasses here, with a deep wrap to the lenses and a grippy frame with hydrophilic temple tips. The lens tint has a slightly golden hue, and offers 100 per cent UV protection, but is better suited to British summer days rather than the brightness of warmer climes. On the bike they block the wind brilliantly.

OAKLEY SLIVER XL POLARISED £150

The Sliver XLs aren’t strictly performance shades but do incorporate superb Plutonite lenses with 100 per cent UV protection. The oversized frame and deep lenses work brilliantly and the excellent grip of the arms and nicely shaped nose are great features. They don’t bounce when riding rough stuff, even though they weigh just 24.1g.
