A stage start in Luxembourg marks the fourth country visited in as many days. The destination is back in France and Vittel, on the edge of the Vosges mountains and a town made famous by its mineral water. The general classification riders will fear another classical element, wind, with crosswinds possible. Everyone else will be rooting for it to blow, bar the GC favourites – unless they’re caught on the right side of it. Splits in the peloton on flat roads are one of the great spectacles of professional cycling but, given yellow jersey prospects train all year to live and die in the mountains, there’s no more galling a way for that jersey bid to end.
