For the first time in 25 years the race visits all five of France’s mountain regions, but there’s plenty in between for sprinters to sink their teeth into. After the first (Vosges) and before the second (Jura) comes a brace of long, flat stages, with this one tailor-made for the well-worn routine that allows the break to get away only to be reeled in at the last moment. The large avenues of Troyes will be the playground for the lead-out trains to have some fun.
