HOY ALTO IRPAVI .002

The lightweight aluminium frame in matt white with gloss details is attractive and it comes with a tapered carbon fork. It has 12mm thru-axles at both ends, and while there are no mudguard mounts there is room for them when paired with 25mm tyres. Chunky chainstays give a great sense of power and efficiency. The Hoy takes the kit prize, with Shimano 105 save for an FSA Gossamer chainset, and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, which are smoother and more powerful than the Tifosi’s. The 52/36 and 11-28 pairing is more aggressive than the Tifosi 50/34 and 11-32, and the 11-speed cassette means smaller jumps between gears. It has narrower rims and tyres than the Tifosi and the standard quickrelease levers require a bit more effort than the DT Swiss versions, but the wheels should prove tough enough for tarmac, where they’re likely to spend most of their time. This is very much at home in an urban environment. It can’t match the Cavazzo for comfort but aces it on braking and its lower weight is appealing too.
