Weights and measures

There are no half measures for this big is beautiful beast, with a hefty 2.4kg weight, 112cm rubber hose and wide aluminium-and-rubber base. It has a great air of solidity and our experience of Topeak’s Joe Blow pumps suggests that it is built to last.

The technology

The DX has twin aluminium barrels and a top-mounted three-way switch that you flick at 60psi and 120psi for maximum efficiency. The super-chunky all-metal SmartHead chuck, with airbleed system, is solid and straightforward to use and the large base-mounted gauge is clear to read.

Pump up the volume

With a maximum pressure of 260psi (yikes!) it was a breeze getting a 25mm tyre up to 100psi. The base with its 28cm-wide footprint, long hose and twin barrels make for a very solid pumping action, and flipping between barrels at 60psi we hit 100psi in just 19 easy strokes, which is as about as quick and easy as it gets. The plastic handle is tough, though not as nice to use as the Lezyne’s aluminium handle.

Extra, extra

The DX comes with ball and bladder inflators, a two-year guarantee and pretty much all the parts are replaceable on this tough and super-efficient pump. The only downside is the price, but as this should last you for years and years it’s not that outrageous.
