Normanby Hall — Scunthorpe
A twisting route through Lincolnshire flatlands, this is a stage that could well be complicated by crosswinds. Andy Hawes: “This is the Tour’s first visit in a while to Lincolnshire, and the winding route is a bit Tour of Flanders-esque – but without any of the bergs!
“Every year we try to get three KOMs on every stage of the Tour of Britain, and, even though they are pretty insignificant, we’ve managed it again here. If no one has built up a good lead in the KOM competition the previous day, then we could see a sprinter take the polka dot jersey today.
“It’s a fast, flat stage, but the finish is draggy and will suit the strongmen with the Humber Bridge as the backdrop.
“This is also going to be a great stage for spectators, as the twisting parcours means anyone out there with a bike could easily see the race pass from three or four locations.”
PLACES TO WATCH
Your best bet today is to follow Andy’s advice and get out there with your own bike. The twisting route, and proximity of the start and finish locations, mean you could easily take in the depart, see the race pass a couple of times, and get to Scunthorpe for the finale. A perfect day.
