VERDICT
Continental and Schwalbe have dominated the fast but functional tyre market and Continental’s GP4000S II is still a great all-round tyre. Equally the Schwalbe Pro One is still a fantastic fast and floated tubeless ambassador, for as long as it lasts. When it comes to premium performance Vittoria has charged up the charts with an excellent smooth riding range bookended by the insanely fast Corsa Speed G+ and tough Corsa Control G+.
The biggest lesson from months of testing is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get excellent performance. Hutchinson’s Fusion (Highly Commended) and Giant’s offering impress for different reasons at under £50 and Pirelli’s P Zero Velo is a great tyre for under £40.
Michelin’s Power Competiton strives ahead with an awesome mix of speed, confident grip and excellent ride feel for only £33.99, making it our value and overall winner.
