CannondaleSynapse UltegraDisc

£2699.99

-

Cannondale’s previous Synapse was a huge success, becoming one of the most popular endurance bikes around, and you can see plenty of that original in the latest model range. The significant difference is that this evolved Synapse is disc brake-only.

Riding the new Synapse on familiar roads and lanes, the sublimely balanced handling is ever present. This is one of those rare endurance bikes that blends the swift sharpness of a race bike with supple comfort. Climbing is a much better experience than a bike at 8.8kg has any right to offer, it simply doesn’t feel heavy. The low gearing available from the Ultegra drivetrain means spinning the pedals on steep slopes is an option, so you can put more effort in aerobically rather than raw power alone.

The Synapse deviates from full Ultegra with basic rotors rather than new Shimano 8020 IceTec units. They worked well in the cold, damp conditions of England in DecemberandJanuary, but we’d upgrade to the IceTec versions when the temperature starts to climb. Still, the 8020 hydro brakes are superb.

The all-up weight reflects the mid-range finishing rather than the brilliant frame and fork. We’d be happy to part with the asking price for such a great bike, but we’d look to give the Synapse the upgrades it deserves soon after.
